Features
Rising AntiVirus is both ICSA Certified and VB 100% Certified . Both of these tests are conducted by independent 3rd parties that check the ability of the software to detect all known viruses as well as new viruses that have not yet been documented (called "in the wild" viruses. Rising has included a feature that scans all incoming and outgoing emails and instant messages for potential threats. In addition, they've added a spam filter. The Spam filter was acceptable, however you may still want to purchase a separate more powerful spam filter. Rising AntiVirus has some other nice features such as "pre-login" scan that allows you to scan your computer before actually logging into windows. Another feature, the"short-cut" scan, allows you to regularly scan a smaller portion of your hard drive and a "screen saver" scan which tells Rising Antivirus to scan the computer only when the screen saver is activated.
Installation
Aside from one interrupted installation, the process went well. We weren't sure if it was our connection or the download server that caused the interruption, but subsequent installation tests passed. The software did not seem to consume computer resources.
Usability
Rising AntiVirus is easy to use. After installation you can choose to select the default settings (which work great for 90% of users) or they have "detailed" settings. This allows you to specify everything from when to scan , what to scan, and how to scan. The user interface is clean and simple. When a virus is detected the software notifies you, shows the action taken, and records it in the log.
Automatic downloads
Rising includes one year of free virus updates. These updates occur automatically as new viruses are detected and published.
Summary
This product offers a straight-forward solution to viruses. Rising AntiVirus works well, is easy to use, doesn't use much of your computer's resources, and has a low price.
